Chauvet Cave — public domain~30,000 BC
Pigment on cave paintings
A rhinoceros in charcoal on the wall of Chauvet Cave, drawn from memory by someone who had seen one. When the cave was rediscovered in 1994, the paintings looked so assured that experts doubted they could actually be that old.
Anatomy
| Stage | a 3:2 picture, letterboxed on --plate, beside a card of text (two thirds and one third from md) |
|---|---|
| Card | the year as a label, the title in the clean cut, the body at 14/24 |
| Caption rule | a --border hairline closing the card, the prev and next cells at its right |
| Change | a hard cut: every frame stays mounted and only the shown one displays |
| Ends | the cell that would leave the set is disabled |
| Keyboard | Left and Right arrows step while the slideshow has focus |
Decisions
-
No counter
The “01 / 05” went in Oct 2026: no ordinals or counts on items. The picture and its caption say which one you are on.
-
Frames off
No frame round the slideshow and no divider between stage and card. The stage keeps its plate because the pictures are letterboxed and need a ground.
-
Nothing slides
Slides change by a hard cut; nothing wipes, slides or fades.
-
Cells for controls
Prev and next are the same icon cells as every other compact control.
